Kathmandu– Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Balendra Shah has said the metropolis is prioritizing quality service delivery while minimizing operational costs.

Addressing the 31st anniversary celebration of KMC on Sunday, Mayor Shah said the scope of house rent tax has been expanded and that taxes collected from citizens are being reinvested directly for public benefit.

He shared updates on major infrastructure projects, including road upgrades and installation of traffic lights. As part of a nighttime urban beautification campaign, 13,340 electric lights have been installed across Kathmandu.

According to the mayor, KMC implemented infrastructure projects worth Rs 2.86 billion in the last fiscal year, while Rs 910 million was invested in heritage conservation.

Mayor Shah also said the metropolis has so far reclaimed 208 ropanis of public land, estimated to be worth Rs 23 billion.

Emphasizing local economic development, he noted that KMC is prioritizing locally available resources and skills to promote entrepreneurship, with indigenous skills being advanced through the ‘one ward, one scheme’ initiative.

He added that KMC’s core focus areas remain economic, social, and administrative sectors, with urban sanitation and e-governance being promoted simultaneously
