Moscow— Russia’s Ministry of Defense said on Monday that its air defense systems shot down 130 Ukrainian drones overnight across several regions, including the Moscow region.
According to the ministry’s statement, 25 drones were intercepted over the Moscow region, of which 15 were heading toward the capital. The remaining drones were reportedly downed across a wide geographic area of Russia.
The ministry said 38 drones were shot down over Astrakhan, 25 over Bryansk, and eight each over Belgorod, Rostov, and Kaluga regions. In addition, six drones were intercepted over Tula, four over Kalmykia, and three each over Kursk and Oryol. One drone was reportedly downed over the Ryazan region, while another was intercepted over the Caspian Sea.
There was no immediate information on casualties or damage.
Russia and Ukraine have issued near-daily claims of drone interceptions and attacks since the conflict began on February 24, 2022. Due to the ongoing war, independent verification of battlefield claims remains difficult.
The reported drone activity highlights the continued escalation of aerial warfare between the two sides, with long-range drone strikes increasingly targeting regions far from the frontline.
