Kathmandu — Newly appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs Balananda Sharma has said he will work to enhance Nepal’s international image and strengthen relations with neighbouring and friendly countries.
Speaking to the media after assuming office on Friday, Minister Sharma said he accepted the ministerial responsibility with the belief that his role could contribute positively to the country and the ministry.
“I will move forward with the goal of improving Nepal’s image at the international level. This country belongs to all of us. If we leave institutions weak or neglected, problems will only increase,” Sharma said. “I have come with the understanding that if the country and the ministry can be strengthened, we should not hesitate to act.”
He said Nepal’s diplomatic missions and ambassadors must remain proactive and accountable. “Every ambassador represents the work Nepal is doing abroad. I believe responsibilities should be carried out with the same seriousness everywhere,” he added.
Referring to the upcoming elections, Foreign Minister Sharma said Nepal may seek cooperation from neighbouring countries if necessary, stressing that such engagement would be conducted through proper diplomatic channels.
“The country is in the middle of an election process and the momentum has already begun,” he said. “If cooperation is required from neighbouring or friendly countries for the elections, it will be raised in the right and appropriate manner.”
Sharma also reiterated his commitment to advancing relations with neighbouring nations, calling them emerging partners and emphasizing cooperation based on mutual respect.
“I will play a positive role in relations with neighbouring countries. Through cooperation and understanding, we can move forward together,” he said.
