Kathmandu — The Election Commission has fixed the maximum election expenditure limit for candidates contesting the House of Representatives election scheduled for February 21, with ceilings varying by constituency based on accessibility.
According to the Commission, candidates from five constituencies in Kathmandu — constituencies 1, 3, 6, 7 and 8 — will be allowed to spend up to Rs 2.5 million. A ceiling of Rs 2.7 million has been set for candidates from 17 constituencies, while candidates in 65 constituencies may spend up to Rs 2.9 million.
Similarly, candidates in 52 constituencies will be permitted to spend a maximum of Rs 3.1 million, and those contesting from 26 remote constituencies will be allowed a maximum expenditure of Rs 3.3 million, said Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
The Commission has made it mandatory for candidates to conduct all election-related expenditures through banking channels. Each candidate must open a separate bank or financial institution account and make payments exclusively from that account. Details of the authorized person responsible for expenses, including name and address, must be submitted to the concerned election officer.
Candidates are required to remain within the prescribed spending limits and submit a detailed statement of election expenses to the election office within 35 days of the official announcement of election results, in line with the House of Representatives Members Act.
