Six Ministers Appointed in Madhesh, Maoist Centre Gets Home Ministry

Cabinet completed under Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav in third phase of expansion

Kathmandu — The Madhesh Provincial Government has been fully formed with the appointment of six additional ministers on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav completed the Council of Ministers by inducting six new members in the third phase of cabinet expansion. Yadav was appointed Chief Minister on November 19 with the support of a seven-party alliance.

The newly appointed ministers include two from the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), two from the Nepali Congress, one from the Janmat Party, and one from the Maoist Centre. Province Chief Surendra Lal Karna administered the oath of office and secrecy to the ministers.

From the JSP, Rajkumar Gupta has been appointed Minister for Physical Infrastructure, while Manish Suman has taken charge of the Ministry of Labour and Transport. Shyam Patel and Shankar Chaudhary from the Nepali Congress have been appointed Ministers for Agriculture and Forestry, respectively. Basant Kushwaha from the Janmat Party has been assigned the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Fakira Mahato from the Maoist Centre has been given responsibility for the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Chief Minister Yadav leads the government through a coalition comprising the Nepali Congress, JSP, Janmat Party, Maoist Centre, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), Unified Socialist Party, and the Citizens’ Liberation Party.

Earlier appointments included Jawaharlal Kushwaha as Minister for Energy, Rani Kumari Tiwari as Minister for Education and Culture, Jangilal Rai as Minister for Health, Kanish Patel as Minister for Industry, and Mahesh Yadav as Minister for Finance.

With the latest expansion, the Madhesh Provincial Council of Ministers now stands at 12 members.
