Jhapa — Senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Balendra Shah (Balen), has reached Jhapa to file his nomination for the House of Representatives election, drawing a significant public turnout and enthusiasm.
Balen arrived at the Election Officer’s Office accompanied by a large number of supporters, including traditional musical processions (baja-gaja). His arrival created a festival-like atmosphere in several areas of Jhapa, with supporters welcoming him with garlands and flowers along the route.
According to his secretariat, Balen is scheduled to reach the Office of the Returning Officer located at Damak Municipality Ward No. 8, where he will formally register his candidacy.
The strong public presence during his nomination filing has once again highlighted Balen’s growing political influence beyond Kathmandu. He formally entered national-level politics after resigning from the post of Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, a move that has attracted nationwide attention ahead of the February 21 House of Representatives elections.
Party leaders and supporters view Jhapa as a strategically important constituency, and the turnout during the nomination process is being seen as an early indicator of electoral momentum.
