Arrested over allegations involving Election Commission and Congress Party, released into relatives’ custody

Kathmandu — Campaigner Durga Prasai has been released on bail following his arrest in connection with controversial allegations related to the Election Commission.

Prasai, who was arrested from Pokhara on Magh 20, was released by the District Police Office, Kathmandu, and handed over to the custody of his relatives, police sources confirmed.

He had been taken into custody after releasing a video statement in which he claimed that the Nepali Congress had paid Rs 520 million to the Election Commission to secure decisions in its favor. Following the circulation of the video and its serious implications, security agencies initiated an investigation, leading to his arrest.

Police stated that Prasai was detained for inquiry related to the content and credibility of the allegations, as well as their potential impact on public order and institutional integrity. After preliminary investigation, he was released on bail in accordance with legal procedures.

Further investigation into the matter is expected to continue, and authorities have indicated that legal action will proceed based on evidence and findings.
