Kathmandu- Voting has commenced across all seven provinces to fill vacant positions in the National Assembly. According to the Election Commission, polling began at 9:00 AM on Sunday and will continue until 3:00 PM.
Seventeen National Assembly seats have remained vacant since Falgun 20, 2082 (March 4, 2026). Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said voting is being conducted for the remaining 17 seats after one seat in Koshi Province under the Khas Arya category was filled uncontested.
Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress was elected unopposed to the Khas Arya seat from Koshi Province, leaving voting to take place for the remaining seats.
Polling is being conducted at designated voting centres located in the capitals of all seven provinces. Bhattarai said eligible voters in the National Assembly election include members of provincial assemblies as well as mayors, deputy mayors, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons of rural municipalities.
Under the electoral system, each provincial assembly member carries a voting weight of 53, while local level chiefs and deputy chiefs have a voting weight of 19. The Election Commission said voting has been progressing smoothly at polling centres.
