Kyiv- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that two days of trilateral talks involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States concluded with constructive discussions, raising the possibility of further negotiations as early as next week.
In a statement posted on Telegram on Saturday, Zelenskyy said the talks focused on possible parameters for ending the war and that all participating sides agreed to report the outcomes to their respective capitals and coordinate future steps with their national leadership.
According to a US official familiar with the discussions, negotiators are expected to return to the United Arab Emirates for the next round of talks on February 1. The official described the meetings as upbeat and positive.
The discussions mark the first known instance of officials from the Trump administration holding talks simultaneously with representatives from both Ukraine and Russia, as part of Washington’s renewed push to make progress toward ending Moscow’s nearly four-year-long invasion of Ukraine.
The talks reportedly covered a wide range of military and economic issues, including the possibility of implementing a ceasefire prior to reaching a comprehensive peace agreement. However, no final framework was agreed upon regarding the oversight and operation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which remains under Russian control and is Europe’s largest nuclear facility.
The US official said electricity generated by the plant would be shared on an equitable basis, though control and management of the facility remain unresolved.
