Kalaiya—Police have arrested a daughter-in-law and a young man recently returned from Dubai in connection with the brutal murder of a mother and her son in Bara district, which had created panic in the local area.
The incident occurred in Rahariadi of Parwanipur Rural Municipality–1, Bara, in the early hours of Magh 14. According to the District Police Office, Bara, 46-year-old Sumitra Devi Mandal and her 24-year-old son Rameshwar Mandal were attacked with sharp weapons at around 3 am and died on the spot.
In the same incident, Sumitra’s husband Jagarup Mandal, 50, and daughter Reena Kumari Mandal, 22, sustained serious injuries. They are currently undergoing treatment at LSR Neuro Hospital in Parwanipur. Their condition is reported to be stable, though doctors are continuing close observation.
Superintendent of Police Narendra Kunwar said that initial investigations have led to the arrest of the victims’ daughter-in-law and another young man on suspicion of planning and carrying out the murder. Police sources said the arrested youth had arrived in Nepal from Sharjah, Dubai, on Magh 12 and travelled directly to Bara after landing in Kathmandu.
According to investigators, police suspect the crime was motivated by an alleged extramarital relationship between the daughter-in-law and the arrested youth. Preliminary findings suggest that the murder may have been planned after the family became aware of the relationship and tensions escalated within the household.
“This appears to be a premeditated act involving close coordination,” a police officer involved in the investigation said, adding that the exact motive and sequence of events will be confirmed after further questioning and forensic analysis.
Police have increased security in the area following the incident and stated that a detailed investigation is underway. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the arrested suspects, citing the sensitivity of the case and the ongoing
inquiry.
