Kathmandu – The foundation stone for the construction of CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur has been laid. Oli’s wife Radhika Shakya laid the foundation stone for the construction of ‘Oli Kuti’ on Thursday.
On Bhadra 24, the residence in Balakot was set on fire and vandalized. Oli has been living in Gundu since the government was displaced due to the Gen-G movement. Politburo member Mahesh Basnet has taken the lead in building Oli Kuti.
“Land has been managed by the people of Gundu for the Oli Kuti,” Basnet said. “The president’s residence will be built by the people of Bhaktapur without collecting donations.” He said that the goal is to build the residence within a year. “We are consulting on how to build it,” he said. “We are discussing the necessary budget.”
He says that since the Oli residence in Balakot has been established as a trust and handed over to the state, it is state’s responsibility to build or not build it.
The Oli family has been saying that they have donated the house to the state after their death. The Oli couple have been saying that they will not rebuild it themselves as the house has already been donated to the state.
‘Oli Kuti’ is being built on 15 aanas of land. Its cost will be Rs 1.5 crore’, Basnet informed. According to him, a one-year time frame has been set for the construction of ‘Oli Kuti’. It will be a completely private building and the locals have provided the land for it.
