EC Closes PR Registration with 100 Parties in the Race for March 5 Election

EC to verify applications by December 12; final proportional candidate list expected on February 3

Kathmandu– The Election Commission has received applications from 100 political parties seeking to participate under the proportional representation (PR) system for the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5, 2026.

The Commission had opened the three-day registration window for parties intending to contest under the PR category from December 7 to 9. By the end of the deadline, a total of one hundred political parties had formally applied.

According to the Commission, some of these parties have chosen to contest with a joint election symbol, while others have opted for individual symbols.

The Election Commission has stated that it will begin reviewing all submitted applications and aims to approve them by December 12. As per the pre-published electoral calendar, parties must submit their closed lists for proportional representation on December 28 and 29.

Following verification, the preliminary PR list will be published on January 19. Claims, objections, and scrutiny will be carried out thereafter, with the final list of proportional candidates set to be released on February 3.
