Kathmandu— Senior leader Ishwor Pokharel has officially registered his candidacy for the post of Chairman of the CPN (UML) as the party’s internal election process continues during the closed session of its 11th National Congress at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
Shortly after Pokharel, incumbent Chairman KP Sharma Oli also filed his candidacy for the top post. With this, the contest for UML leadership has formally narrowed to a direct competition between Oli and Pokharel.
According to the party’s election schedule, voting will be held on Tuesday, while the final list of candidates will be published later today after completion of the nomination and complaint procedures.
Both Oli and Pokharel have entered the race by leading separate panels, indicating a competitive election for the party’s future leadership and direction.
The election is being conducted during the closed-door session of the national congress, with delegates set to cast their votes using electronic voting machines.
