Kathmandu- Ishwar Pokhrel, a candidate for the post of chairperson at the 11th General Convention of the CPN (UML), has said his participation and involvement in the party’s campaign will remain unwavering despite his defeat.

Reacting after the final election results were announced on Thursday, Pokhrel thanked all voter representatives and congratulated the newly elected leadership. He said his commitment to the party’s ideological and organisational goals would continue.

“Even though I could not emerge victorious, I want to assure everyone that my participation and involvement in the CPN (UML)’s campaign—to build a patriotic movement, a democratic movement, and the foundation of socialism—will remain unwavering,” Pokhrel said. He also extended best wishes to the newly elected leadership for the successful completion of their term.

Thanking the delegates who supported his candidacy, Pokhrel said he remained grateful to those who placed their trust in him despite the electoral outcome.

He further expressed confidence that key issues raised during the General Convention would continue to be discussed within the party. These include collective leadership based on the principles of People’s Multiparty Democracy, running the party through established procedures and systems, and ensuring internal checks and balances to strengthen democratic party functioning.

According to the General Convention Election Commission, UML chairperson KP Sharma Oli secured 1,663 votes, while Pokhrel received 564 votes in the chairperson race.
