Baitadi- The District Committee of the Land Problem Resolution Commission in Baitadi has formally resumed its activities following the Supreme Court’s annulment of the government’s earlier decision to dissolve the commission.
District Committee Chair Ramesh Pandey said the commission restarted its district-level work immediately after the court verdict. A district committee meeting, attended by District Coordination Committee Chief Khagendra Singh Dhami and Chief District Officer Punya Bikram Paudel, decided to seek updated data from local governments on land-related beneficiaries.
According to the decision, letters have been sent to all municipalities requesting detailed information on landless Dalits, landless squatters, and unorganized settlers by February 8.
Coordination with local governments
Committee Secretary Binod Prasad Bhatt, who also serves as the Head of the Survey Office, said all 10 local levels in the district have been formally informed. The correspondence outlines a series of responsibilities for local governments, including:
- Entering applications collected from all wards into the Commission’s digital system
- Forming Ward-Level and Local-Level Facilitation Committees
- Publishing public notices for claim objections as per prescribed procedures
- Conducting field investigations and verification of submitted applications
Local governments have also been asked to publish lists of applications that remain unverified, identify land eligible for allocation to landless Dalits and squatters under existing regulations, and obtain formal decisions from executive bodies.
Additionally, municipalities are required to submit verified decisions and supporting documentation from ward and executive levels to the district committee concerning landless Dalits, landless squatters, and unorganized settlers.
Process moving forward
Officials said the renewed coordination aims to accelerate long-pending land management processes in line with legal provisions and procedural standards. The district committee will review submissions from local levels and proceed accordingly based on verification outcomes and executive decisions.
The reactivation marks a key step in resuming land resolution efforts that had remained stalled following the earlier dissolution of the commission.
