Janakpurdham- Tension has escalated across Madhesh Province following a controversy involving alleged indecent remarks targeting religion and culture on TikTok, with its impact now extending to Birgunj in Parsa district. In response to what officials describe as a “sensitive situation,” security agencies have heightened alert levels in all eight districts of the province, including Dhanusha and Parsa.
According to senior security officials, precautionary measures have been intensified to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. The move follows unrest in Dhanusha, where a video circulated on TikTok sparked religious sensitivities and led to police intervention.
A few days ago, two youths from Janakpur, identified as Haider Ansari and Amanat Ansari, uploaded a TikTok video using the name “Hindustan.” Local leaders alleged that the content was crafted in a manner that could disturb communal harmony and religious tolerance, and subsequently handed the two youths over to the police.
Tensions flared when the youths were taken into custody during ongoing discussions between representatives of both sides at the Area Police Office in Khajuri. Amid the unrest, a mosque was also attacked. Dhanusha Police Spokesperson DSP Ganesh Bam confirmed that the individual involved in the attack has been arrested.
The fallout from the Dhanusha incident has now reached Birgunj, where protests related to the same issue have been reported since Friday morning. Security forces have been deployed in sensitive areas to maintain law and order, as authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and appeal for restraint and communal harmony.
