Kathmandu — A letter has been formally registered with the Election Commission informing it of disciplinary action taken by the Sher Bahadur Deuba–led faction of the Nepali Congress against three senior party leaders.
According to Commission sources, leaders from the Deuba faction reached the Election Commission on Wednesday afternoon and submitted a letter stating that action has been taken against General Secretaries Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma, along with Joint General Secretary Farmullah Mansur.
Earlier the same day, a meeting of the Central Working Committee aligned with the Deuba faction announced a five-year suspension of the three leaders, citing their involvement in organising a special general convention against the party establishment’s decision.
In response, leaders facing the action have rejected the legitimacy of the decision, arguing that the move lacks justification as a majority of general convention delegates support their position. They have maintained that the ongoing special general convention represents the will of the party’s delegates.
Meanwhile, supporters of the special general convention are proceeding with the election of a new party leadership, asserting that decisions taken through the convention process remain valid and binding.
