Kathmandu- Leaders of the Nepali Congress led by Gagan Thapa have reached the Election Commission to formally update the decisions and party details adopted by the first Central Working Committee meeting held after the special general convention.
Joint General Secretary Dila Sangraula informed that she has already arrived at the Election Commission to submit the decisions taken by the Central Committee meeting held earlier today, while President Gagan Thapa and other office bearers are also in the process of arriving.
“The Central Committee meeting decided to update all official party details at the Election Commission. In line with that decision, the information is being submitted today,” Sangraula said. “I have already reached the commission, and the chairperson and other office bearers are on their way.”
A Central Working Committee led by Gagan Thapa was elected on Wednesday through a special general convention of the Nepali Congress, which the Thapa faction claims was held in accordance with party statute.
However, the Nepali Congress led by Sher Bahadur Deuba has already submitted a letter to the Election Commission stating that no such special general convention was held, challenging the legitimacy of the Thapa-led leadership.
Even before the Deuba faction’s letter, supporters of the special general convention had informed the commission in writing that the convention was underway. With both sides submitting conflicting claims, the dispute over the party’s official legitimacy has further intensified, and the matter is now formally before the Election Commission.
