Kathmandu- Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has announced that he will file his candidacy from Gorkha Constituency No. 2 in the upcoming House of Representatives election.
Bhattarai made the announcement through social media, stating that he has decided to contest the election under the election symbol of the Progressive Democratic Party, ‘Open Eyes’.
Explaining the reason behind his decision, Bhattarai said his candidacy was based on the strength and commitment of party members in Gorkha–2, the support and encouragement from general voters and well-wishers across party lines, and the sense of national responsibility arising from the country’s uncertain political situation.
“Considering the strength of our party organization in Gorkha–2, the goodwill of the general public and supporters from other parties, and the national responsibility demanded by the current political uncertainty, I have decided to contest the upcoming general election from Gorkha–2 under the Progressive Democratic Party’s election symbol ‘Open Eyes’,” Bhattarai said.
In the same constituency, Lekhnath Neupane has been nominated as the candidate from the Nepal Communist Party (NCP). Likewise, CPN-UML has nominated Chakre Milan as its candidate from Gorkha–2.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress and the Rastriya Swatrantra Party (RSP) have yet to finalize and announce their candidates for the constituency.
With Bhattarai’s entry, the electoral contest in Gorkha–2 is expected to become highly competitive, drawing national attention due to the presence of prominent and controversial political figures.
