Kathmandu — The Parsa District Court has ordered Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane to post a bail of Rs 10 million in connection with a cooperative fraud case.
A single bench of Judge Rudra Subedi issued the bail order, court sources confirmed. Lamichhane has been asked to deposit the bail amount to remain out of custody while the case proceeds.
Earlier, on June 1, a case was filed at the Parsa District Court against 29 individuals, including Lamichhane, alleging embezzlement of funds from the Sano Paila Savings and Loan Cooperative Society based in Birgunj. The charges include cooperative fraud and organized crime.
According to the charge sheet, the prosecution has made a financial claim of Rs 115.694 crore, alleging large-scale misuse and misappropriation of cooperative funds.
The court order comes at a politically sensitive time, as Lamichhane was preparing to appear in court while also moving ahead with his plan to register his candidacy from Chitwan-2 for the upcoming House of Representatives elections.
Further legal proceedings in the case are expected to continue in the coming days.
