Kathmandu — The United States has deported another 80 Nepali citizens, continuing the recent trend of phased deportations. The deportees were brought to Kathmandu on Tuesday via a chartered aircraft and subsequently released.
According to Immigration Department spokesperson Tikaram Dhakal, those deported include 79 men and one woman. He said the individuals were sent back for reasons including undocumented status, illegal stay, and violations of US immigration laws.
After arriving in Nepal, all deportees were handed over to the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau for preliminary inquiry. Officials at the bureau questioned the returnees and later released them to their respective families.
The bureau has also urged the deported individuals to lodge formal complaints if they were taken to the United States through illegal channels or by human traffickers, stating that such information would help ongoing investigations.
The United States has been deporting Nepali nationals in multiple phases over the past years, primarily targeting those found to be residing or working without valid legal status.
