Kathmandu — The preliminary list of candidates for direct elections under the House of Representatives polls scheduled for Falgun 21 is set to be published today. The Election Commission is preparing to make the list public this evening after completing the investigation and decision-making process on complaints filed against candidate nominations.
According to the commission, complaints registered on Wednesday have been studied and decided upon, after which the preliminary list of candidates for each constituency will be published between 5 pm and 7 pm today. The commission has stated that this marks the formal entry into the next phase of the election process.
Meanwhile, candidates have been given the opportunity to withdraw their candidacies on Magh 9. As informed by the commission, nominations can be withdrawn between 10 am and 1 pm on that day. Following the withdrawal process, the final list of candidates will be published between 1 pm and 3 pm. Election symbols will then be allocated to candidates from 4 pm to 7 pm on the same day.
A total of 3,486 candidates registered their nominations across all 165 constituencies nationwide during the nomination registration process that concluded on Tuesday. According to Election Commission data, 3,089 of the registered candidates are men, 396 are women, and one candidate belongs to another gender group.
