Kathmandu- Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has directed the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police to take swift action against individuals spreading false and misleading information on social media platforms, stating that the Bureau does not require prior approval from senior officials or any other bodies to initiate investigations.
During a visit to the Cyber Bureau at Bhotahiti on Saturday, the Minister said Bureau personnel are fully authorized to bring anyone found violating the law under investigation. He urged officials to remain vigilant and closely monitor the circulation of indecent, baseless, and legally prohibited content, as well as misinformation and disinformation on social networking sites.
Emphasizing the sensitivity of the upcoming House of Representatives elections, Minister Aryal called on the Cyber Bureau to intensify its monitoring and enforcement activities. He said timely action against fake and misleading information is essential to maintain public trust and ensure a fair electoral environment.
The Home Minister also stressed the need for the Bureau to be more proactive during the election period to prevent the misuse of digital platforms for spreading false narratives.
