Kathmandu– Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava was hospitalised on Saturday after falling seriously ill while hiking at Champadevi Mountain on the outskirts of Kathmandu.
According to sources at the Indian Embassy, Ambassador Srivastava suddenly fainted while hiking around 3:00 pm, yesterday. He was immediately rescued by a Nepal Army helicopter and airlifted to Grande International Hospital in Kathmandu.
Doctors involved in his treatment later confirmed that the ambassador had suffered a heart attack caused by blockage in the left coronary artery. Medical sources said he arrived at the hospital conscious and was taken for immediate cardiac examination.
Following angiography, doctors placed a stent in the blocked artery to restore blood flow. “Initial medical examination confirmed a heart attack. A stent was placed and the blocked artery was opened,” a doctor involved in the treatment said.
Ambassador Srivastava is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Doctors have said that his health condition is improving and he will remain under observation for the next few days.
Medical officials also noted that blockages were detected in other heart arteries, which will be addressed later based on his recovery. Once his condition stabilises further, he is expected to be shifted to a general ward.
Hospital sources have described his current condition as stable and improving.
