Kathmandu – The CPN (UML) has decided to retain a 301-member central committee, in line with the structure adopted by its 10th National Congress. The decision was taken during a central committee meeting held prior to the closed-door session of the party’s 11th National Congress.
UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli informed the meeting that the majority favored maintaining the existing structure. Some leaders, including Senior Vice-Chairperson Ishwor Pokharel, had argued against altering provisions endorsed by the party’s Statute Convention, but the proposal to keep the central committee size unchanged prevailed.
Addressing the meeting, Chair Oli said the large turnout of party cadres at the inaugural ceremony of the 11th National Congress had reaffirmed the legitimacy and relevance of political parties in the country.
During the meeting, General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel presented the election schedule, code of conduct, and key contemporary issues to be discussed during the closed-door session of the National Congress.
