Kathmandu– Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that elections should not be viewed as a period of crisis but as a moment of joy and an opportunity for change.
Addressing an all-party meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday, Prime Minister Karki emphasized that democratic change in Nepal has always come through elections.
“Elections are not a time of crisis for us; they are a time of joy. They are the path to change. Whatever changes Nepal has witnessed so far have come through elections,” she said.
Referring to the political developments following the Gen Z movement, the Prime Minister said the country is facing a new challenge—bringing youth to the forefront of leadership.
“On Bhadra 23 and 24, something beyond our imagination happened. The entire nation experienced a shift. The challenge now is how to bring the youth forward and how to move the country ahead under their leadership,” she stated.
Prime Minister Karki reiterated that the people are the supreme authority of the country, stressing that internal disputes within political parties should not burden citizens.
“The greatest authority is the people. Political parties are secondary. What matters is what the people want and what the current generation demands,” she said.
She also acknowledged the deep impact of deaths during the Gen Z movement, saying the state must seriously understand the aspirations of the younger generation rather than offering symbolic or inadequate responses.
“We must understand what Gen Z wants and why change is necessary. This cannot be addressed by token gestures,” the Prime Minister added.
