Kathmandu — The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and the Ujjyaalo Nepal Party have reached a seven-point agreement paving the way for party unity.
The agreement was finalized on Monday following talks between RSP Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane and Ujjyaalo Nepal Patron Kulman Ghising in Kathmandu. As per the agreement, Ghising will be appointed vice-chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
The formal agreement document was signed by Ujjyaalo Nepal Party Chairperson Anup Kumar Upadhyay and RSP Chairperson Lamichhane. Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah was present as a witness during the signing.
Under the agreement, even after party unification, the Rastriya Swatantra Party will retain its existing election symbol, the bell. During earlier rounds of unity talks, Ghising had maintained that if the party name remained Rastriya Swatantra Party, the election symbol should be a glowing bulb. However, the final agreement confirms the continuation of the bell symbol.
Through the seven-point agreement, both parties have jointly called on other alternative and reform-oriented political forces to unite for building a transformative political alternative in the country. They stated that individuals, groups, and parties committed to democratic governance, prosperity, and social justice should rally together under the leadership, principles, and election symbol of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
The seventh point of the agreement states that all progressive, cultured, and change-seeking alternative political forces and individuals are invited to come together under the RSP’s leadership, ideology, and election symbol to advance the agenda of democratic good governance, development, and social justice.
