Kathmandu: The Commission of Inquiry formed to investigate the incidents related to the Gen-Z Movement of Bhadra 23 and 24 has begun preparations to formally seek clarification from then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
On Thursday, Commission Chairperson Gauri Bahadur Karki informed that the commission is in the process of issuing an official letter requesting KP Sharma Oli’s statement as part of the ongoing investigation. The communication, according to sources, is aimed at examining the decisions, directives, and overall role of the then government during the course of the Gen-Z Movement.

The Gen-Z Movement, which witnessed violence and controversial state actions on Bhadra 23 and 24, remains a politically sensitive issue, with questions raised over the use of force, administrative decisions, and accountability at the highest levels of government.
Prior to initiating contact with former Prime Minister Oli, the commission has already recorded the statement of former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak. Lekhak’s testimony focused on the security arrangements, deployment of forces, and decisions taken by the Home Ministry during the movement.
Officials involved in the probe say the commission is gradually summoning key political and administrative figures who held decision-making authority at the time, in line with its mandate to establish facts, determine responsibility, and recommend action where necessary.
The inquiry commission was constituted by the government to conduct an independent and comprehensive investigation into the Genji Movement incidents, amid sustained public and political pressure for accountability. The commission is expected to submit its final report with findings and recommendations after completing statements from all relevant stakeholders, including former top executive leaders.
