Kathmandu- Kulman Ghising is preparing to resign from his ministerial post in the government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, according to leaders close to him.

Ghising, who currently heads the Ministry of Energy, Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development, has been under criticism for allegedly engaging in party-level election preparations while still serving as a cabinet minister. A leader close to Ghising said discussions regarding his resignation are ongoing and that he is likely to step down as early as today.

Ghising was appointed minister on Bhadra 30 and has since been overseeing the energy, infrastructure and urban development portfolio. However, growing concerns over ethical conduct have intensified after reports emerged that he was actively preparing to contest the upcoming election.

Leaders close to Ghising said he is considering resignation on moral and ethical grounds, acknowledging that continuing political activities while holding ministerial office has drawn public and political criticism.

During a recent cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Sushila Karki had instructed ministers to resign immediately if they intended to engage in party politics or contest elections. Ghising is widely expected to enter the electoral race, which, according to his close aides, has made his resignation inevitable.

Following his resignation, Ghising is expected to focus fully on election preparations, sources said.
