Gorkha — Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has officially filed his candidacy from Gorkha Constituency No. 2 for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for February 21.
Bhattarai registered his nomination on Tuesday by personally reaching the Office of the Returning Officer of House of Representatives Constituency No. 2. He is contesting the election under the banner of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the nomination details, Narayan Khatri has been named as his proposer, while Rijan Rana Magar is his supporter.
Bhattarai’s decision to contest has drawn attention as he had repeatedly stated earlier that he would not run in the election. However, he publicly announced his decision to enter the race only on Sunday, citing political circumstances and responsibilities.
Gorkha-2 is considered a politically significant constituency, having previously been represented by senior national leaders, and Bhattarai’s entry is expected to further intensify the electoral competition in the district.
