Kathmandu- The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against six individuals, including the then ward chair of Dang’s Rajpur Rural Municipality and the former chief of the Area Administration Office, Lamahi, on charges of illegally granting Nepali citizenship to Indian nationals by forging official documents.
According to the CIAA, Indian citizen Alam Jolha was issued Nepali citizenship by descent through collusion involving the then ward chair of Rajpur Rural Municipality–4, Rameshwor Yadav (Ahir), and the then chief of the Area Administration Office, Lamahi, Prem Bahadur Khawas.
The investigation found that to facilitate the issuance of citizenship, the death record of Sanaullah Jolha, who had died on Magh 15, 2038 BS, was falsified by altering the year of death to 2041 BS. Additionally, a forged birth certificate was created stating that Alam Jolha was Sanaullah’s son and was born in 2039 BS.
The CIAA has filed charges against former Area Administration Office chief Prem Bahadur Khawas, ward chair Rameshwor Yadav, ward secretary Rajesh Kumar Kahar, office assistant Meena Chaudhary, Alam Jolha who obtained the citizenship, and Ayesha Jolha, who allegedly assisted in providing false identification.
CIAA spokesperson Suresh Neupane said that citizenship certificate number 52-06-75-03826 was issued to Alam Jolha on Mangsir 12, 2075 BS. The case has been registered seeking legal action against all accused for abuse of authority and document forgery.
