Kathmandu- CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli has reaffirmed that his party will ensure the country does not deviate from the right course, stressing the UML’s commitment to democracy, good governance, and national development.
Addressing the opening session of the party’s 11th National Congress in Sallaghari, Bhaktapur, on Friday, Oli said that despite continuous obstacles and criticism, public support for the UML has significantly increased. He maintained that the party would continue working to build a prosperous nation without engaging in what he described as political theatrics.
“Democracy is unassailable, and the CPN-UML is unbreakable,” Oli said, adding that a party committed to democratic values and the welfare of citizens must be established as a decisive national force. He claimed that forces advocating for good governance and development stand with the UML and that the party is moving toward a future of prosperity and happiness for the people.
Oli further stated that a stronger communist movement would reinforce nationalism, arguing that the UML has played a leading role in promoting social justice and inclusivity in national politics. He said the party has integrated inclusiveness across political structures and focused on people-centered development.
Highlighting UML’s vision of socialism suited to Nepal’s context, Oli said the party has emphasized village-based and participatory development along with major national projects. Referring to the large turnout at the general convention, he expressed confidence that the dissolved parliament would be reinstated.
The UML chair also remarked that state institutions were weakened due to infiltration during the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9, but said democracy would be restored through peaceful and just governance. He criticized the current government for adopting biased and unconstitutional practices instead of creating an environment conducive to free and fair elections.
