Kathmandu- Voting to elect new leadership of the CPN (UML) under its 11th National Congress is scheduled to take place today in Kathmandu.
Chair of the UML Central Election Commission, Dr Bijaya Subba, said voting will begin this afternoon and will be conducted through electronic voting machines. A total of 80 electronic voting machines have been arranged for the process.
Laxman Rimal, Managing Director of Ram Laxman Innovation Pvt. Ltd, the company responsible for the technical arrangements, said the entry of candidates’ names into the system is currently underway. He stated that efforts are being made to complete the task on time and hand over the system to the election commission, while also indicating that voting could be delayed due to the large number of candidates.
Candidates aspiring for office-bearer positions and central committee membership registered their nominations on Monday, and the final list of voters was released the same day. The congress is set to elect a 301-member central committee.
As per the schedule, voting will be held at Bhrikutimandap this afternoon. Party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli and Senior Vice-Chairperson Ishwar Pokharel are contesting for the top leadership position.
