Kathmandu — Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Co-Coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal have taken the oath of office amid an ongoing program at the party’s central office in Parisdanda.

The oath was administered in the presence of senior party leader Nanda Kumar Prasai. During the same program, the party is set to announce its central committee members, who will also be sworn in by Coordinator Prachanda.

According to Jagat Singkhada, President of the NCP’s Valley Special Province Committee, the central committee to be announced on Tuesday will comprise around 2,499 members. He stated that those announced today will serve as members of the party’s General Convention Organising Committee.

“About 2,499 central members will be announced. These members will function as the general convention organising committee,” Singkhada said.

The NCP was formed on Kartik 19 through the merger of 10 political constituents, including the CPN Unified Socialist. Since then, the party has expanded further, incorporating more than 17 parties and groups.

Leaders and groups that have joined the NCP include figures associated with Bamdev Gautam, Bhim Rawal, Rajendra Shrestha, and Citizen Liberation Party Chair Ranjita Shrestha. Most recently, the Limbuwan Krantikari Party led by Manish Limbu and a faction led by JSP Vice-President Shivlal Thapa joined the NCP on Sunday.

At the time of the party’s unification announcement, an agreement had been reached to hold a general convention within six months and to limit the central committee to 199 members. Party leaders have clarified that this provision remains unchanged.

“The central committee will ultimately remain at 199 members. The members being announced now will serve only as members of the general convention organising committee,” Singkhada said.

According to him, 60 percent of the permanent central committee members will come from the former Maoist Centre, while the remaining 40 percent will be selected from other constituent parties, including the Unified Socialists.

Singhada also noted that not all central members would be administered the oath on Tuesday, as the final list of members from the former Maoist Centre is yet to be completed. He estimated that around 2,250 central members are expected to take the oath today.
