Nawalpur- Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the government estimates around Rs 31 billion will be spent on the upcoming elections.
Speaking to journalists in Nawalpur on Tuesday, where she arrived to attend a program organized by the National Service Party, Prime Minister Karki clarified that preparations are underway to conduct the elections on March 21 as scheduled.
Responding to rumors about a possible postponement of the polls, Prime Minister Karki dismissed such speculation, stating that there is no reason to delay the elections. She noted that the estimated expenditure of Rs 31–32 billion is not a recurring cost for every election but is being incurred now to address existing shortcomings, including gaps in physical infrastructure and logistics.
She further explained that Nepal is currently receiving assistance from various countries to support the election process, adding that if the present circumstances had not required such spending, the international assistance could have been utilized in other sectors.
Prime Minister Karki reaffirmed that the elections will be held under all circumstances and that state power will be handed over to the newly elected government once the new representatives are chosen.
She also stated that even if elections are disrupted in some areas, they will be conducted in phases if necessary. Addressing challenges in Himalayan districts due to cold weather, she said arrangements would be made to transport voters to accessible locations where vehicles can operate.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment, Prime Minister Karki reiterated that the administration remains serious and vigilant about ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections across the country.
