Kathmandu- As preparations intensify for the upcoming elections, Nepal Police has carried out a large-scale reshuffle of district police leadership. A total of 48 Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been transferred, including postings in electorally sensitive districts.
The Police Headquarters in Naxal implemented the transfers, primarily targeting district police chiefs, citing the need to strengthen security management and administrative readiness ahead of the elections.
Among the transferred officers are SPs Anantram Sharma, Anil Kumar Khadka, Amarendra Bahadur Singh, Arjun Prasad Timilsina, Ek Narayan Koirala, Kazi Kumar Acharya, Kuldeep Chand, Keshav Bhattarai, Gajusiddhi Bajracharya, and Gautam Mishra, among others.
SP Gautam Mishra has been transferred to the District Police Complex, Lalitpur, from the Economic Administration Division of the Sudurpaschim Province Police Office. The outgoing Lalitpur Police Chief, SP Chakraraj Joshi, has been reassigned to the Central Special Task Force of Nepal Police.
Notably, SP Basundhara Khadka has been posted to Jhapa, a district regarded as an election hotspot due to its political sensitivity and high voter engagement. She was previously serving at the Bagmati Province Human Resource Management Division in Hetauda.
In addition to the SP-level reshuffle, Nepal Police has also transferred eight Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), further indicating a comprehensive reorganization of the security command structure ahead of the polls.
The police leadership has routinely implemented such reshuffles before elections, stating that they are aimed at ensuring neutrality, operational effectiveness, and strengthened law enforcement during the electoral period.
