Kathmandu- Candidates from the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), and Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal have been elected to the National Assembly in the elections held on Sunday, according to results published by the Election Commission.
The Election Commission made public the results from all seven provinces, showing that candidates backed by the three-party alliance secured victory across the country.
From Koshi Province, Roshni Meche and Somnath Portel of the CPN (UML) and Sunil Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali Congress were elected. In Madhesh Province, Rekha Kumari Jha of the UML, Dharmendra Paswan and Ranjit Karna of the Nepali Congress, and Mahantha Thakur of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party Nepal were elected. Thakur contested the election following the merger of the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal and the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party.
From Bagmati Province, Geeta Devkota of the Nepali Congress and Prem Prasad Dangal of the UML secured seats. Similarly, Samjhana Devkota of the UML and Jagat Timilsina of the Nepali Congress were elected from Gandaki Province.
In Lumbini Province, Vasudev Ghimire and Chandra Bahadur KC of the Nepali Congress were elected, while Mina Singh Rakhal and Lalit Jung Shahi, both from the Nepali Congress, were elected from Karnali Province. Lilakumari Bhandari and Khamma Bahadur Khati, also from the Nepali Congress, were elected from Sudurpaschim Province.
The Election Commission stated that elections were held for 18 of the 19 National Assembly seats that will fall vacant from Falgun 11. The remaining one member will be nominated by the President on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.
The Commission has said that detailed vote counts received by each elected candidate will be published separately as per the official election procedure.
