Kathmandu, December 17 — Renowned mountaineer Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, whose name was included in the proportional representation (PR) candidate list of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has announced that he wants to withdraw from the list, stating that he is not interested in partisan politics.
Taking to social media on Wednesday, Tashi, who is also the CEO of 14 Peaks Expedition, said he was grateful for being recommended as a PR candidate for the House of Representatives but wished to step aside.
“Thank you for selecting my name for the House of Representatives under the proportional representation system. However, I would like to withdraw my name from the list as I am not interested in partisan politics,” he wrote on Facebook.
Tashi added that he remains committed to contributing to the country through his own work and social role. “I will always be committed to contributing to the progress of my country in my own way. As an ordinary citizen, I will continue to serve the nation through my actions,” he said.
He also extended his best wishes to all political parties and candidates contesting the upcoming elections.
Tashi Lakpa Sherpa is the brother of Mingma Sherpa, who formally joined the Rastriya Swatantra Party a few days ago. Earlier, Tashi had shared a video message congratulating his brother and wishing him success in his political journey.
Meanwhile, the proportional representation list submitted by the RSP to the Election Commission has drawn criticism over allegations of nepotism, favoritism, and family-based recommendations. Party President Ravi Lamichhane has acknowledged the concerns and stated that necessary corrections will be made in the list.
