Kathmandu- The Government of Nepal has expressed concern over the escalating tensions between the United States and Venezuela, calling on all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could further aggravate the situation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged stakeholders not to take steps that may lead to further escalation of tensions. Nepal made its official position public amid growing international concern following reports of a US military operation in Venezuela, including the capture of the country’s president and his wife and their subsequent detention in New York.
The Foreign Ministry emphasized Nepal’s principled position on international relations, underscoring the importance of full respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of all states, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations.
“Nepal believes that disputes between states should be resolved peacefully through dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual understanding,” the statement said.
Tensions between the United States and Venezuela have drawn reactions from several countries and international actors, with calls mounting for de-escalation and adherence to international law. Nepal’s statement aligns with its longstanding foreign policy stance of non-alignment, peaceful coexistence, and respect for international norms.
