Kathmandu- The Rashtriya Swotantra Party (RSP) has revised its proportional representation closed list for the upcoming House of Representatives elections, promoting Ramesh Prasai to the top position in the Khas Arya male category.
Although the party has not officially disclosed the revisions, party sources confirmed that Prasai moved to number one after former RSP Joint General Secretary Bipin Acharya withdrew his name from the list. With this change, Prasai’s entry into the federal parliament is now considered almost certain.
Prasai had secured the highest number of votes in the party’s internal primary elections. However, he was previously placed fifth on the closed list, triggering widespread dissatisfaction within the party. Critics argued that the earlier ranking undermined merit and sidelined popular and capable leaders. The latest adjustment is seen as a corrective move by the party leadership.

Earlier, Sachin Dhakal and Sudeep Dhakal occupied the second and third positions on the list, both reportedly representing the Balen Shah–aligned quota. Sachin Dhakal has since been removed from eligibility due to age restrictions, while Sudeep Dhakal remains on the list.

The closed list also includes 14 candidates from the Ujyaalo Nepal quota. Among them, Rima Bishwakarma continues to hold the first position in the Dalit women category. Party sources indicate that her position remains unchanged and that she is expected to stay within the RSP fold.
The revision comes amid growing scrutiny of party transparency and internal democracy, particularly regarding proportional representation nominations. The changes suggest an attempt by the RSP to address internal criticism and restore confidence ahead of the February 21 parliamentary elections.
